Set in 1877, an incurably romantic
bookworm from Appalachia, searches for the perfect romantic hero, wins a
contest, travels to England, and then to the Holy Land.
The main character, Bianca Marshal, is holding out
for the perfect husband. Living in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains
has proven this task an impossibility. Bianca's mother insists that there's no such
thing as a perfect true love and that Bianca's ideal man is pure fiction.
Bianca,
on the eve of her twenty-fifth birthday, comes to realize that her chance of marrying
is dwindling. Bianca’s father, against her mother’s wishes, encourages her to enter
an essay contest that propels her into a whirlwind search for her soul mate. Against
all odds she is off to see the opulence of London and the mysteries of the Holy
Land. Bianca's true love will be
revealed, but not without a heavy price.
Vallance writes an interesting story filled with
interesting characters. If you suspend belief on the premise, there is enough
there to keep you going. A sweet coming of age story, into maturity and faith
with, the struggles and sorrows Bianca goes through. If you enjoy historical
romances this one is for you.
